Sam has submitted some updates regarding our tournament, as there is a post named the same, I got confused, and thought there might be others who also would be. Link to page
Närcon 2013 starts on Thursday this week, and LiRMA will of course be there and offer the visitors a chance to get acquainted with the wonderful world of mahjong!
We will have short seminars to instruct beginners, drop-in gaming and a small tournament at the end of the convention. so if you are at Närcon 2013, take some time of and relax with a nice game of mahjong!
We will have a room of our own in C-building, R37 and will have quite generous opening hours.
This post is a bit late, but not entirely forgotten!
Närcon 2012 is now over, and it really exceeded our expectations. We’re proud to exaggerate when we say that we’ve managed to increase the number of riichi mahjong players in sweden with 100%!
At least that is how it felt for us who arranged the drop-in riichi-mahjong exhibit. All kinds of people showed up; People with no previous experience, people with lots of online mahjong history, people who knew chineese mahjong. No matter who they where, everyone where eager to play with us, and we had so much fun to do that we were hard-pressed to find time to eat, which is awesome!
We also arranged a small tournament during the saturday, where no less than 17 people competed to get the best scores. We arranged it so that everyone gets to play some different opponents, and after 4 hands or about 35 minutes the participants switch table and opponents. After repeating this a few times (When the concentration of most participants was all but gone) we let the top 4 players meet in a final confrontation!
All in all it wasn’t very well arranged by us, but we’ve learned a lot and feel confident that we can to better next year!
Here is a list of the tournament participants sorted by score, with most points at the top.
Aaand some pictures of the tournament
LiRMA will attend it’s very first convention next week, namely NärCon!
We will arrange mahjong for beginners the 2 first days, and have a small tournament on the last day!
About 2-3 times a day, there will be mini-seminars where we will explain the rules and flow of the game. We hope that we will meet many new friends and mahjong-players!
Also, check in NärCon’s own site!
At the mahjong meeting last Sunday, a couple of geniuses devised and built LiRMA’s first attempt of a mahjong frame. It is not quite as sturdy as we hoped, but it works just fine and adds a little bit of sophistication to the game!
